Helping my community and others is very important to me. That is why I do my best to engage in community service. I believe that it is essential to help those around you, and in return you will better yourself.
A way that I use my abilities to help others is the Operation Christmas Child. I participate with my church to package up gifts that are sent to foreign countries to children who are less fortunate. This is important to me because I am passionate to help those around the world. Within my student council committee, we also donated items to children in our community whose parents could not afford to give them gifts.
Since last year, I have made homeless packages to give to homeless people on the streets, or donate them to homeless shelters. I package them with everyday necessities like deodorant, toothbrushes, lotion, etc. Then I would deliver them to individuals in need.
Past the couple of years, I have been apart of helping my local food drive. The second Saturday of every month, I go and help sort, package, and distribute food to others.
In my future, I am hoping to use my abilities to help others, and broaden this to people and communities all over the world. One rewarding aspect of being a journalist is being able to engage in different cultures, and learn the truth for yourself. This upcoming summer, I am planning on partnering with GLA to go on a mission trip to India. On this trip, I will be able to help build and repair communities while venturing to foreign lands. All this while documenting my experience with photos and writing.
