Messiah College, Young Writers Workshop 2017

I attended the Messiah College Young Writers Workshop in July of this summer of 2017. This was my first ever college experience, and I had no idea what to expect. I decided to challenge my horizons by applying to this workshop, in hopes to improve my understanding and ability of writing. What I didn't expect, was to be receiving a life changing experience.

Writing has always been an aspiration of mine. I adore it. Reading literature, and composing pieces myself. Within this workshop, I was able to broaden my education in ways of writing and expression. I was able to develop skills of communication, speaking, and self confidence by expressing myself through writing. These skills will stick with me through my high school career and further future.

The experience from this workshop helped me to advance my exploration in writing. I became passionate about my work, and I have a whole new perspective of how I write and read. I was surrounded by people who had the same ambitions as me, and made meaningful friendships.

Throughout the week, we were visited by professional authors and writers who read to us and gave us essential advice. We had the opportunity to write our own pieces, and share them with others. The video above is of a piece I wrote while attending the workshop. I am so glad that I decided to come to this camp, because without the encouragement and knowledge I learned, I never would have become passionate about the career of Journalism. This experience shaped the path for my future and further career exploration.
